Distinct Interiors is one of Metro Vancouver’s premier crafters of decorative concrete overlay. We have completed decorative finishing projects in more than 1,000 residential and commercial spaces in Metro Vancouver, the BC Interior, Vancouver Island and Whistler.

Our master craftsman Randy Orr, is a decorative artist with decades of experience. His passion is the creative process, and over a lifetime of training, researching, and creating new finishes and products, he has chosen to focus on concrete overlays, using his own mix of time-tested ingredients. We create the look of architectural concrete, without the environmental impact

In 1992, when we began our focus was on fine finishing, using painting and faux techniques. Our company founder, Randy Orr, has a passion for Old World craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for hand-tooled decorative techniques.

Over time, as Randy trained, researched, and created new finishes and products, his focus shifted to concrete. As a craftsperson, he loved the raw beauty and versatility of concrete, but was troubled by the environmental impact of traditional concrete production and installation methods. He and his team spent a decade creating and innovating - searching for an alternative that would deliver the look and feel of architectural concrete, while using as little of the material as possible.

After years of testing, he developed the perfect solution: a strong, durable concrete mix that could be applied in this coats with stunning results. Along the way, he also launched his first product, MATT Concrete Panels - an ultra-light, concrete panel that combined Randy’s handcrafted artisan finishes with an eco-friendly substrate that could be easily cut and installed by building professionals to mimic architectural concrete.

Today, Randy divides his time between Distinct Interiors and Matt Concrete, design and handcrafting bespoke concrete overlays onsite for clients, and overseeing the production of MATT Concrete Panels in his Vancouver-based studio for the professional building and design market.

From conception, Randy and his team are passionate about bringing each client’s vision to life. They regard every project as unique and open to the creative possibilities of handcrafted finishes. Indeed, handcrafting is the thread that connects all of Randy’s endeavours, from Distinct Interiors to MATT, After nearly three decades of working in the decorative arts, he believes that handcrafting is the only way to create authentic, artisan concrete finish - and give every project the unique look it deserves.

Over the course of his decades-long career Randy has worked with homeowners, designers, builders and architects, to bring a wide range of decorative concepts to life- stunning one-of-a-kind projects that are pieces of art in themselves. He is a certified master craftsman in the application of concrete, resins, and plastering techniques, and his passion for the creative process, and for innovative solutions, drives him to push the boundaries of traditional uses for concrete.
